"2007 & Newer" Articles from Coach Marty Jones or Local Newspapers

Nicole Trudell is Awesome One Day & Perfect the Next

November served as a Record Setting period for Nicole Trudell, who bowls out of the highly successful Providence Senate Junior Program (http://www.pvdsenatejrs.com/) at AMF Lang’s Lanes in Rhode Island. Nicole, age 15, started the month by posting a new program High Series Record in the major girls division (ages 15 to 21) with an awesome 768 series on November 2nd. She rolled games of 244-269-255. The old record was held by teammate Deanna Outland with a 726 and a 724 series. But now the record belongs to Nicole. This however, is only her second best three-game total in her young lifetime. Last season, while bowling in the junior division (ages 12-14), Nicole shot an outstanding 786 series at Providence Senate and owns all the records in that division at this time.

As Nicole successfully shattered the series record, there still was another record that she had her sights set on breaking and that was the high game mark at Senate. So on November 23rd, Nicole sets a New Senate High Game Record with a PERFECT GAME (300). Senate Hall of Famer, Allyson Smith, who posted three-279 games, held the old high game record up to this point. This is just truly a perfect day, as Nicole becomes the first and only Senate female to bowl a 300 game in our 10-year history. I am sure it won’t be the last one we see, but for now , we are going to cherish this special accomplishment of hers.

Nicole would like to thank her parents (and brother) first and foremost for being so supportive of her; special thanks to her Coach (Marty Jones) for working with her all year round; thanks to all my Senate teammates, who push me week after week on the lanes; the Union Camp Bowling League, that bowls next to us on Sundays; and last but not least AMF Lang’s Lanes (Manager Shawn Fitzpatrick and assistant Manager Chris Girard).

Coventry student’s project has personal significance
01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 (appeared in Providence Journal)

COVENTRY — Coventry High School sophomore Nicole Trudell recently shared a little bit of her heart with the American Heart Association with a donation of $820 that she raised this spring.
In a ceremony at the school last Wednesday, Nicole, 15, presented the check to representatives of the national organization.
She raised the money with a bowling tournament she organized as a so-called capstone project, one of several new prerequisites for receiving a high school diploma in Rhode Island.
She was inspired to raise the money for the Heart Association by the death of a cousin, Patrick Coulter, 14, who had been diagnosed years ago with a heart condition known as ventricular tachycardia. Patrick, a ninth-grader at Coventry High School, was attending a Providence Bruins game at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center with his church group last Nov. 23 when he suffered cardiac arrest. He died the next day.
“I knew Patrick very well. … We went to school together. We saw each other on the holidays and at family gatherings,” Nicole said last week. “He passed away around the time I had to pick a [project] topic. This seemed to click. I definitely feel a lot better after I did it, that I can look back and say I did a good deed.”
Nicole, an avid bowler, held the fundraiser at AMF Lang’s Lanes, on Niantic Avenue in Cranston.

Baby Girl Crawls to a 786 Series

On March 16th, Nicole "Baby Girl" Trudell, age 14, crawled up the charts again this season and broke two more records here at Senate in the female category.
The first of the two new records was the high game mark with an outstanding 287 GAME. The old Senate mark was a 279 game that held by former Senate star bowler Allyson "da First Lady" Smith (with 3) and Nicole (with 2). Nicole actually bowled the second of her two 279's a week prior to this record breaking performance.
The other record that Nicole now holds is the female Highest Series with an unbelievable 786 SERIES. The old record was held by Deanna "da Queen" Outland with a 726.
"This is so gratifying considering how hard Nicole has trained over the last two years," says Coach Marty. "I am really happy for her, and consider her to be one of my hardest working athletes." Nicole is currently averaging a 198 and will certainly win her 4th straight State High Average Award at seasons end.
Congratulations to Nicole and keep up the hard work, and imagine what you will be able to accomplish once you go from crawling to taking "baby steps" (smiles).
Please note: Nicole currently bowls in the Junior Division (ages 12-14) so all major division female record will still remain as of such posted. That is of course, until next year! To view our most updated record sheet click here.

Nicole "Baby Girl" Trudell - 279 Game
On January 27th, while participating in the Northeast Junior Scratch which was held at AMF Cranston Lanes, Nicole "Baby Girl" Trudell, age 14, broke her own record in the Junior Girls Division here at Senate with an outstanding 279 GAME. She threw all strikes in the game with the exception of the 3rd frame. Her old personal best sanctioned score use to be a 268, which she did last season. Nicole now is tied for the highest game ever bowled by a female in our program's history putting her in the elite company of Senate Great Allyson "da First Lady" Smith, who recorded three 279 games over her career at Senate. Nicole is having yet another outstanding season, and is currently averaging a state leading 193. She is showing signs of rapid improvement and it won't be long before Nicole owns all of top female records here at Senate. To learn more about Nicole and her accomplishments, plus see actual video of her bowling visit her site at: http://www.nicoletrudell.blogspot.com//. Congratulations Nicole and continued success!

Two Senate Youths Earn USBC Coaching Certifications

On December 9th, two youth bowlers from the Providence Senate Junior Program (Jalen Scott-Jones & Nicole Trudell traveled to Wallingford, Connecticut to take one of the final two USBC Level One Coaching Certification classes that will be offered in our area. USBC will soon be certifying coaches online and the traditional classroom setting with an USBC Certified Instructor will be a thing of the past. The instructor of this class was none other than Mr. Stewart Schilb, who has over 20 years of experience at administering the class. Mr. Schilb has trained just about every certified coach that our program has ever had. Both Jalen and Nicole (ages 14) passed the eight hour one day certification class and now made RI history as our states youngest USBC Level One Certified Coaches. "I am very proud of these two athletes simply for the fact that they had the courage to even want to pursue something this major at such a young age", says Coach Jones. "These are a couple of my most knowledgeable upcoming star bowlers that train with me all year round. I had no doubt in my mind that these two athletes would pass the class", says Coach Jones. They have now become the third and fourth Senate youth bowlers to ever become certified "Player Coaches" in our nine-year history. Our former two player-coaches were Allyson Smith & Brandon Medina, but unfortunately they no longer bowl in the program. Allyson now bowls on the collegiate level and is a junior at Texas Southern University and Brandon, who aged out of the program, has been coaching at Senate for two years now. Our new "Player-coaches" are now knowledgeable in bowling basics including the roles and responsibilities of a coach, progression of the physical game, safety issues, mental game aspects and goal setting. Congratulations to Coaches Jalen & Nicole on your USBC Certifications.

Northeast Junior Scratch Tour (NeJST)
Rhode Island State Champs Cruise to Victory

On September 30th, ten members of the Senate Bowling Team (Alex Raedel, Justin Scott-Jones, Chris Moseley, Bobby Pacuk, Jalen Scott-Jones, Nicole Trudell, David Lewis, Gian Papa, Deanna Outland and Rai Doblmeier traveled to Malden, MA to compete in the Northeast Junior Scratch Tour. Once again, seven out of the ten athletes that the program brought to the event advanced, and both Nicole (Junior Girls) and Rai (College Boys) earned the top seeds in their divisions.
Rai (the 2007 State Pepsi Champion) posted the highest six game total of day for all the NeJST participants and was the top qualifier after six games with an unbelievable 1475 total (an average of 245). Despite bowling his lowest score (219) in the championship match, he was still victorious and captured the division title. Nicole (the 2006 & 2007 State Pepsi Champion) breezed through her division field by earning the top spot by 198 pins over the second seeded bowler. She then advanced to the finals were she easily won, 187-146. Others that bowled well for Senate were: Jalen - 2nd Place & Bobby 5th Place in the junior boys division; David - 3rd Place & Gian 4th Place in the major boys division; and Deanna - 4th Place in the girls open division. To learn more about the Northeast Junior Scratch Tour and its schedule of events, visit their website at: http://nejst.blogspot.com/. This is a very well ran event and the Tour Director, Kathi McCaw, does an outstanding job.

First NEJST of the 2007-2008 season

On September 9th, ten members of our team (Jadee Scott-Jones, Bobby Pacuk, Jalen Scott-Jones, Nicole Trudell, David Lewis, Chris Moseley, Gian Papa, Sarah Pimentel, Alex Raedel and Rai Doblmeier) began their day bowling in the first day of league and then traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts to compete in the Northeast Junior Scratch Tour. The event was held at AMF Chicopee Lanes on the PBA Shark Pattern.
The team preformed quite well and that could be a direct tribute to the fact that the majority of them participated in the "Filling da Frames Youth League" over the summer. The Senate's Chris Moseley posted the tournaments highest game after the first qualifying round with a 245. Seven of our ten bowlers advanced to the second round with Jadee, Nicole and Jalen all earning the top seeds in their divisions. Newcomer Bobby Pacuk also advanced along with Sarah, who was making her NeJST debut. Our final two bowlers that advanced were regulars Alex and Rai.
Sarah and Bobby bowled very well on this difficult shot and both ended up finishing in 5th place in their divisions. Sarah also bowled a 191 game during the event. Rai won his first stepladder match, but then lost to Alex for a 4th place finish. Alex then went on to beat two more bowlers for the College Division Championship, while posting a 245 game in the finals. Both Jadee (preps) and Nicole (junior girls) were more than 150 pins ahead of the second seeds, while bowling the shark pattern. Unfortunately, they fell short when the event was moved to a house shot to accommodate leagues that were coming in. Our other champion was Jalen, who won the Junior Boys Division with a much improved spare game. Congratulations to all of you and special thanks to Kathi McCaw for running and outstanding tournament.

2006-2007 Articles by Coach Marty Jones

Baby Girl Post First Female 700 Series in League

On April 1st, Nicole "Baby Girl" Trudell rolled a 717 series. With that total, Nicole became the first and only Senate female bowler to shoot a 700 series in league play. She bowled games of 247-237-233, while winning all three of her head-to-head matches against Rai Doblmeier. This now registers as her second one of the season (shot 724 in a state tournament earlier this year). Nicole, who is only 13 years old, has a 182 average and leads the state in the junior girls Division.

Baby Girl Climbs Into Elite Club

Nicole "Baby Girl" Trudell, who gets her nickname from the fact that many people do not even realize that she is only thirteen years old, continues to do big things here at Senate. Nicole, who is averaging 177 in league play and 185 in the State Travel League, is bowling well beyond her years since joining the program.
On February 11th at the USBC State Adult/child Tour at AMF Cranston Lanes, she rolled an outstanding 268 GAME and 724 SERIES. "All I can say is… WOW," says Coach Marty. Nicole was partnered with her mom in the event, but with those kinds of numbers I am sure that most people viewed Nicole as the adult and her mom as the child that day (lol).
Nicole posted scores of 208-248-268 to become the first (and only) female in Senate to bowl a 700 series. With those impressive scores, Nicole made both Senate and Ocean State History as the youngest female to reach such a plateau. With scores like this NOW, I would hate to see what type of scores she will be posting when she becomes an ADULT. Congratulations to our Baby Girl!!

Senate Girls Wins 4th Straight State Pepsi Title

Chalk it up baby! The Providence Senate has now won the RI State Pepsi Tour in the Girls Scratch Division for the 4th year in a row. Let's count them-Allyson Smith (2004), Deanna Outland (2005), Nicole Trudell (2006 & 2007). Can you say domination? Guess what? It is only going to continue! Why might you ask? Well to begin with, Nicole is only 13 years old, and the Senate is loaded with young talented girl bowlers. Do you know that three of our female bowlers have been offered NCAA Bowling Scholarships for the Fall 2007? Well, that is another story for another day. The big story here is that Nicole won back-to-back state titles with an impressive 1346 series for six games. It was an All-Senate finals as she faced Deanna and won 221-198. Both of these bowlers will now advance to the Junior Gold National Tour in Buffalo, NY this coming July as the RI representatives and compete against many of the best bowlers in the nation. Congratulations!

Nicole will return to Defend her State Title

In the Scratch Division our Star of the Week is Nicole Trudell, who earned a spot in the Ocean State Pepsi-Cola tour which will be held in March of 2007. The Pepsi Tour is the Main Event as far as state competitions are concern and the only way to qualify for a spot into the event is to earn it through your junior program. Every program sends it best bowlers to this event and it is here that you see if you measure up to the competition on a State level. The winners of the Pepsi then advance to the Nationals which will be in Buffalo, NY as the RI representative. The Senate has won the girls division title for the last three consecutive years when Allyson won in 2004; Deanna won 2005; and Nicole won last year becoming the youngest person at 12 years old to ever win the states biggest event. Our qualifier for the boys is Rai Doblmeier, who already has a spot at the Junior Olympic Gold (JOG) National Bowling Championship Tour in NY this coming July 2007. Congratulations to the both of you! You both work hard and it shows.

2005-2006 Articles by Coach Marty Jones

3rd Straight Pepsi Championship for Senate Scratch Girls

In 2003-04 Allyson "First Lady" Smith captured da Senates first ever State Championship of the Pepsi-Cola Tour in the girls Scratch Division. She is now bowling on a NCAA Scholarship at Texas Southern University. In 2004-05, Deanna "da Queen" Outland won over Allyson and advanced to the Junior Olympic Gold National Bowling Championship in Indianapolis, IN as the Rhode Island representative. Last week, Nicole "Minus Two" Trudell won the 2005-06 State Championship and at 12 years of age to become the States youngest qualifier & champion. Nicole will now represent our program and State at the National Junior Bowling Championship Tour in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this coming July on the tough sport shot lane conditions. She possibly could be the youngest girl at the event. She will now compete against college girls and many of the country's top female bowlers for the opportunity to make Junior Team USA. Nicole, who qualified as the third seed in our state tour, won both of her head-to-head matches en route to the state title. She first faced a girl from Old Mountain Juniors and won easily, 189-128. In the state finals, she squared off against the states major girls highest average bowler out of Kingstown Juniors, who also bowled a 290 game this season and was victorious, 209-176.

Higher and Higher

On April 23rd, in the first set of the double league session, Nicole Trudell, age 12, broke the Senate Record for Series in the junior girls division for the third time this season. On this date, Nicole bowled and outstanding 669 series with games of 231, 208 and 230. She first broke the record with a 637 series back in January, and then again in February when she shot a 640 series. Nicole, who now holds records in two different divisions at the Senate, continues to make a name for herself not only in the program but also on a state and national level. In March, she became the youngest person to ever win the Ocean State USBC Pepsi-Cola Tournament in the Scratch Division. She now will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to compete in the 2006 Junior Olympic Gold National Bowling Championship Tour as the lone female Rhode Island representative. She could possibly be the youngest female athlete at the event, which showcases many of the best youth bowlers in the country. At seasons end, Nicole may add two more records to her list: (1) Senate High Average (junior girls); and (2) State High Average, which will make her our programs first ever back-to-back USBC State High Average winner. This is quite a feat considering that Nicole is only in her first year in a higher age division. Congratulations to you, Nicole, we are very proud of you!
